Light Progression

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Last week, a woman by the name of Margaret Feinberg came to Wheaton College's campus and gave a chapel series over three days labeled "The Sacred Echo." God attempts to communicate with us through many forms. One of these is in the constant nudgings that we seem to receive from Him throughout our days. Whether it is a repeated word of encouragement from multiple sources, or a piece of scripture that seems to continually appear throughout the week, the soft voice of our creator continually crackles in our ear...like a whisper that is barely audible through the static of a television.

Or at least thats how I interpreted what she was trying to convey...

This photo is actually one of the first that I took as I began to experiment with my camera...for me it represents what Christ's "sacred echos" might look like. We are surrounded by so much darkness...in the world....but also in our own personal lives. Uncertainty about circumstances, pain that is inflicted by both ourselves and others, and our own personal fears can darken the path that we are supposed to walk. But God is there...and if we are willing to pay attention and look around us we might find that there are sacred echos to guide us slowly forward.

........Ps. 119:105

The Photographer

Monday, January 26, 2009

So the first picture I decided to post was of a friend of mine by the name of Tim...a group of friends and I had traveled out to Chicago to watch the sunrise one morning, and it actually became one of the most memorable experiences of 2008...The contrast of the light sunrise, and the dark anonymous person for me symbolizes a lot of what we see in nature. To the natural world, we're simply anonymous beings that happen to pass in front of daily events...but that's the point. Humanity leaves an impression on this world, and its something that we can't simply ignore...the sun rises daily, the seasons change, and against it all man exists...and sometimes he even captures our attention.

I chose it because it summarizes what this blog is...its about photography...specifically a photographer...me....who simply wants to present some interesting images with a bit of commentary, and show some (most likely kitsch) art.

First Post

WELCOME

So the main reason that this blog has been started is that I am intrigued by the idea of how these can be used. Blogs can be a real place of discussion, and interaction....they can also be completely narcissistic and useless....we'll see what happens. For the most part I only expect friends who are procrastinating from homework to actually look at this thing.

Primarily...this will be a place for me to post my photography...Perhaps someone will get some bemusement out of it.
